Fast paced science fiction thriller fun times。 Also, humans are insignificant in the long term - Malcom says so。

This book was really fun to read。 Part of that is because of the action and the intensity but part of that was just because me and my boyfriend would read it to each other and it was cute。Ian Malcolm is much grosser in the book than he is in the movie。 Ellie asks a question (banal, I can't remember it but it was completely un-sexual) and Malcolm is like "YOUR LEGS R HOT" and it wasn't the answer to the question nor was it relevant at all to anything going on。 He's described as like the rockstar This book was really fun to read。 Part of that is because of the action and the intensity but part of that was just because me and my boyfriend would read it to each other and it was cute。Ian Malcolm is much grosser in the book than he is in the movie。 Ellie asks a question (banal, I can't remember it but it was completely un-sexual) and Malcolm is like "YOUR LEGS R HOT" and it wasn't the answer to the question nor was it relevant at all to anything going on。 He's described as like the rockstar of the mathematician world, but he just seems like a pervy man in his late 30s who likes to rant。 I've met this guy at parties and it's not as hot as Michael Crichton thinks it is。But yeah, it's fun! Very different and more gruesome (but not gratuitously) than the movie。 Lex was my favourite character。 Even tho she was very annoying I was like "yes Lex make every situation worse。 I relate and believe in you" 。。。more

Great scientific and mathematical journeyI tried to read this as a pre teen when the movie came out but too scientific but as an adult a client recommended it and it was amazing and funnily more into mathematics (biast on authors part imparting extreme views) but extremely well researched with flair for mixing scientific what ifs that even in 2023 scientists can’t 100% dispute。 Not a Stephen king kind of author more Dan brown which I love equally。 If you love science and creature features with w Great scientific and mathematical journeyI tried to read this as a pre teen when the movie came out but too scientific but as an adult a client recommended it and it was amazing and funnily more into mathematics (biast on authors part imparting extreme views) but extremely well researched with flair for mixing scientific what ifs that even in 2023 scientists can’t 100% dispute。 Not a Stephen king kind of author more Dan brown which I love equally。 If you love science and creature features with well researched scenarios then it’s the book for you。 I’ll be reading more from this author can’t believe it took me 30 years to pick up again! In no small way, one of the greatest written works of science fiction ever devised!! A true work of imaginative brilliance and masterful writing!! "Broadly speaking, the ability of the park is to control the spread of life forms。 Because the history of evolution is that life escapes all barriers。 Life breaks free。 Life expands to new territories。 Painfully, perhaps even dangerously。 But life finds a way。" -Ian Malcolm In no small way, one of the greatest written works of science fiction ever devised!! Fav parts are still the more science than the action/dinosaur chases。 Ian Malcolm is a hottie fr!

Wow! As much I have enjoyed the movies, I also thought that this was an interesting take on the relationship between science and humanity。

My son handed this to me and asked me to read it。 It was worth the time as it explained things that the movie did not。 I’m glad that I had the opportunity to read it!

I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! I highly recommend!

Fiona Skywalker

Incredibly different from the movie, but equally as thrillingly brilliant。

I can’t tell if this book is better than the movie but still really good。 Definitely enjoyed this book and how in depth it went about the actual dinos vs the movie。 Some of the characters can be a little bit annoying at times but overall solid。

A fun sci-fi novel that, other than some odd pacing at moments, provided a unique story with commentary on the role of science in society。

The ending was a little meh。 Character development was lacking for some of the characters but I get that the main idea was the dinosaurs。 I think some of the science still holds up today。 Interesting idea about bringing something back that had once existed and the implications of it。 Didn’t like John Hammond at all in this book。 He reminds me of Elon musk。 Kind of heartless and only for himself。

Okay, I'm late in reading these。 I am a huge fan of the movies。 Usually, I like reading the book first before watching the film version。 But I just didn't get around to this one before memorizing the series' first few movies。 And that sadly gave me an up。 I knew what needed to happen。 But the shows are better。 I am so glad they rewrote the shows to tell a more friendly bunch of main characters。 I don't want to give spoilers if you haven't read the books, but there were shockers。 And now I feel I Okay, I'm late in reading these。 I am a huge fan of the movies。 Usually, I like reading the book first before watching the film version。 But I just didn't get around to this one before memorizing the series' first few movies。 And that sadly gave me an up。 I knew what needed to happen。 But the shows are better。 I am so glad they rewrote the shows to tell a more friendly bunch of main characters。 I don't want to give spoilers if you haven't read the books, but there were shockers。 And now I feel I must read the next book in the series。I do enjoy the writing of Michael Crichton。 Yeah, I'm a newbie to his work。Scott Brick gave a sense of authority to the science of the topic and acted most of the characters with gusto。 But females were not done as well, sounding a bit demeaning。 But overall, he kept the story interesting。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A great book。 The carnivorous dinosaurs in here( primarily the T。Rex and Velociraptors) are legit scary。 Way more violent than the film adaptation。 If the movie was more like the book, it would've been rated R。 There's a lot of disembowelment。 I was surprised that they killed off John Hammond (Eaten by Procompsognathids, chicken sized carnivorous scavengers) after he fell down a hill and broke his ankle。 Also, Ian Malcom (played by Jeff Goldblum in the films) dies from an infected wound from the A great book。 The carnivorous dinosaurs in here( primarily the T。Rex and Velociraptors) are legit scary。 Way more violent than the film adaptation。 If the movie was more like the book, it would've been rated R。 There's a lot of disembowelment。 I was surprised that they killed off John Hammond (Eaten by Procompsognathids, chicken sized carnivorous scavengers) after he fell down a hill and broke his ankle。 Also, Ian Malcom (played by Jeff Goldblum in the films) dies from an infected wound from the T Rex attack on the jeeps when they were touring the park。 。。。more

I can only imagine what it was like to read this prior to the movie。 I am so jealous of those who got to。 I have always enjoyed the Jurassic Park franchise and thought it was about time I enjoy the source material。 I never stopped and thought about how Michael Crichton is a complete genius for coming up with the whole thing to begin with。 Was there anything like this before him? Not that I know of。 Complete genius。 Not bogged down by all the science (that loses me sometimes)。 Teases you along wi I can only imagine what it was like to read this prior to the movie。 I am so jealous of those who got to。 I have always enjoyed the Jurassic Park franchise and thought it was about time I enjoy the source material。 I never stopped and thought about how Michael Crichton is a complete genius for coming up with the whole thing to begin with。 Was there anything like this before him? Jurassic Park is one of the first novels that I ever read。 If I was to have rated the book back then, it would have easily gotten 5* from me。 But upon a re-read, it just isn't that good。 Maybe the novel suffers from over exposure at this point。 I mean, I read it over 30 years ago, I read the sequel The Lost World, since then, there have been six movies in this franchise, as well as TV shows and video games。 Maybe what seemed so original at the time, just doesn't do it for me anymore。The book has Jurassic Park is one of the first novels that I ever read。 If I was to have rated the book back then, it would have easily gotten 5* from me。 But upon a re-read, it just isn't that good。 Maybe the novel suffers from over exposure at this point。 I mean, I read it over 30 years ago, I read the sequel The Lost World, since then, there have been six movies in this franchise, as well as TV shows and video games。 Maybe what seemed so original at the time, just doesn't do it for me anymore。The book has some pacing issues。 For most of the book nothing really happens, then there is this avalanche of action right after another。 The characters are intolerable。 Hammond is a sociopathic Capitalist, Malcolm is just intolerable, Lex is just whiny。 I didn't find any of the characters interesting, and I didn't care about any of them。The book itself is fine, and it is probably better than I give it credit for, as it was very unique for its time。 However, I completely forgot how much Crichton was a climate change denialist。 He just can't help himself。 The whole part at the end where Malcolm is talking about how Hammond is an idiot because he believes that we should protect the Earth。 Well actually, the Earth is billions of years old, and humans can't hurt it, blah blah blah。It's a rare thing when the movie is better than the book, but that's the case with Jurassic Park。 Instead of wasting your time reading the book, just go see the movie。 It is so much better, makes the characters more likeable, and cuts out all the fat of the novel。 。。。more

SO GOOD!! This took me so long to read because 1) I can’t concentrate on physical books at the moment and 2) this book began my obsession with dinosaurs and crocheting them。 Anyway, I loved this and I will recommend it to everyone。

Dinosaurs are cool。

This book is very good though I find enjoy the changes made in the film and think they serve the overall story。 The book is much more cynical than the film and John Hammond especially is less misguided old grandpa who’s a dreamer like his in the film and more like ruthless capitalist whose greed is his demise

Theresa

Read this for English class but this book was genuinely so good! Super clever, love the suspense and deaths :)) Instantly became one of my favorites!

Was a recommendation from a friend and I really really liked it! Would also recommend to anyone。 Different vibes than the movie I feel like but very fun

The movies provide a visual jumping point to immerse the reader in a fantastic plot that’s the right amount of suspenseful。 Now I’m curious to learn about changes made for the movie, as well as read the sequel。Also, the little girl sucks。 Wow。

3。5 Stars。 Enjoyed, but there were some parts that really slowed down the pace of the book and were boring, even the characters complained at one point! lol!

Don’t go in looking for a dinosaur horror, this is a book exploring the abilities of cloning and the woes of modern science asking the famous line “you never thought if you should” the book is somewhat limits being stuck in the 90s science but once go past the tangent it become and enthralling adventure against monsters and it give just enough to keep exploring the world with the characters

Suzanne Simpson

Brilliant book, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would 🥰
